Last Wednesday we had the pleasure of being a part of the fall MdQI Construction & Engineering Career Day where we were able to speak with students from Anne Arundel County middle and high schools about careers in the construction industry. We brought a milling machine to share with the kids and our Workforce Development Manager, Demarco, did an amazing job engaging the 400 students that attended the event. Demarco’s passion for our industry, love for his job and enthusiasm to inspire the next generation of construction workers is apparent in every conversation that he had and of course made them “clap it up” as he left every kid with his favorite mantra- “Giving Up Is Not An Option”!

Oct. 27th we hosted our Flanigan Family Day at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore! We could not have asked for a more beautiful fall day for the weather while we gathered at the Zoo’s Waterfowl Pavilion to enjoy a delicious lunch catered by Mission BBQ. The bounce house was the hot spot for the kids to bounce their day away and we had a face painter too! We had two very special guest join our party… Pearl an African Penguin and a prehensile tailed skink! Their handlers did an excellent job of introducing them to our team and answering all our questions about these two awesome zoo ambassadors. And of course, everyone was able to explore the zoo to visit their favorite animals and have fun with all the activities going on for Zoo Boo! Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun day at the Zoo!

Today is #NationalCatDay and what better way to celebrate than a little update on the Flanigan Four! If you are new to the Flanigan Four here is a little background- Boots, Shorty, Tabby & RT make up the colony of feral cats living on the southwest corner of our Loch Raven Road property. They have all been Trapped-Neutered-Returned (TNR) and have had their various vaccinations & shots. The man behind our colony is our resident cat dad- Hans Ruppenthal! Hans has dedicated the last 8 years to taking care of the gang, which started off with 9 cats, making sure they get a meal every day which consists of wet and dry cat food, no matter if it’s the weekend, a holiday or bad weather.
Our colony has been stable for over two years now. Shorty and Tabby are a bonded pair and are constantly hanging together including when it comes time to eat, they share the same food dish! Boots is the only cat that makes any noise, and she is a very vocal little lady when it comes time to eat, you can hear her cute little meows telling you to get a move on with her meal. She is also our pickiest kitty and does not like the salmon flavored wet cat food lol RT is more reserved, the most skittish of the four and the one who likes the dry cat food the most out of the ladies.
While we will welcome any kitty that wants to join our gang, we are glad that it has sustained itself so well and ladies have been as spoiled as can be for being feral cats!

Today we are celebrating a big anniversary here at Flanigan! Please help us in wishing Jimmy a Happy 30th Anniversary! Jimmy joined our team in 1994 as a laborer. He quickly became a very good shovel, lute, and tamper man which led him to becoming a dump man. During this time when the opportunity to become a paver operator arose, Jimmy accepted the challenge and has excelled in this position. Jimmy has worked his way up within the Flanigan organization, has done an excellent job with each job he takes on and we are proud to have him as part of our team. Thank you Jimmy for all that you do and Congratulations on 30 years!
